Site Info The who, what, where, when, why, and how of Enigma


I am Rena "Sama" YAOI and anime obsessor for over seven years now. I'm a full time graphic and fine artist, a full time pervert. I'm a Virgo/Libra. I hate the banal and ordinary. I love Puddin (fiancee), life Bejiita, my friends, YAOI, music, sunny days, the smell of fresh rain, and sex.

Enigma is a comprehensive site devoted to YAOI, shonen-ai, and male homoeroticism and the more subtle relationships between men in japanese animation, comic books and vid games.

Enigma was hosted at Homestead.com for a long time. As a novice to web site making, it was a good start. However after a point Homestead could not suit all of Enigma's needs. Thus I moved the site around many times till I found a suitable server with brinkster. After years of working with their generous 30MB freespace servers, I finally decided to buy my own space and domain. The new address is:

I actually started building Enigma in October of 1999. It was up and running by Jan of 2001 when it made its maiden voyage to the web. Though of course the site is never really finished. There's always new evidence to find, more fics to write, and pics to draw!

Again I'd been into YAOI for a while. I just find the relationships between the males in my favorite shows very compelling. Whether it was brotherly, or actual passionate love, it's cool with me. So I decided to document everytime I saw some of the before mentioned ^^

Instead of the easy site builder Homestead.com provided I used HTML. It wasn't as hard to do as I thought it would be. I assumed it would be many months before Enigma was up and running again. I'm glad my assumptions were incorrect. I try to keep the layout rather simple. I've gone through so many different layouts since I first put the site up. You can take a look at the old layouts below. They are listed from newest to oldest.


This layout was made after I'd taken a 4 month certificate course in graphic design, typography, color theory, all that good stuff. I decided Enigma needed a makeover that reflected some of what I'd learned. For once, my layout ins;t so reliant on pictures, and has free shapes and type to make a compelling visual plane. But for anyone who's wondering, the picture I used is from one of the many incomprehensible boylove games out there. I really liked the idea of the seme bishie using the calligraphy brush to tease the uke's nipple. Hence the title for this version of the site. In all it was fun to make, and way easier to put together and code than previous versions. So now I can devote more time to content and such.
